Retiring from my HVAC job
At the old age of 67, I knew my time had come to retire. I had been working with dedication for most of my life now and I was ready to sit back and enjoy the rest of my years that I had left. I had had the same job now since I was 32. Some people go from job to job and others have one job that they stay with for many years, for me it was the latter. I enjoyed my company and all my coworkers. Working in the HVAC industry had been my career and now knowing that I would be leaving all of that behind was very bittersweet for me. I can’t begin to count how many heating and a/c systems I have repaired and worked on over the years. When you do a job like this, you get to meet many different kinds of people and some of those people still stick out to me. Mostly the ones that were very friendly. I remember this one old lady who would always invite the HVAC technicians to sit down and have dinner with her. She didn’t know too much about heating and cooling and frequently called us out to have us help her manage her dial thermostat. Tomorrow is my last day of work before I retire. It feels like one door closing and another one is opening, like a new chapter in my life so to speak. I plan on embracing it and enjoying all the time I have left to spend time with my children and grandchildren.
