My best friend is an accomplished heating and cooling technician
I met my closest friend Tom while the two of us were sharing a desk in the 6th grade.
It was advanced math and we struggled learning some of the early algebra we were being exposed to.
Tom and I quickly became study buddies and kept taking classes together until we graduated from high school. I started classes at a local community college while Tom went to a trade school so he could get into the work field doing something steady with generous pay compared to the minimum wage jobs that he and I had worked since we were 25. Tom’s path led him into an apprenticeship with a local heating and cooling company. By the time I finished college, he was already making $25 an hour as crewmember on an HVAC installation team. He was well on his way to becoming a master technician in the next 10 years. I’m lucky to have someone so close to me who can work on my air conditioner and furnace for me so I don’t ever have to worry. I insist on paying full price, but he always gives me a huge discount when he is done. It would be great if I could exchange my services for his, but I don’t know how call center experience could ever materialize into help I could give him. Regardless, I probably won’t ever have to worry about not having someone reputable and accomplished in the heating and cooling business right on the other end of a phone call whenever I need him. And since we live in the same neighborhood, the drive over from his place takes three minutes at most. I’m lucky to have my friend Tom in my life.
